SAVE MONEY ON YOUR LOCAL PHONE SERVICE!!!

Eligible low-income residential customers of Upper Peninsula Telephone Company are encouraged to take advantage of available discounts on their telephone bills. The LIFELINE program provides people on limited incomes with an $11.25 discount (up to $12.35 for customers age 65 or older) on their monthly telephone charges. Additionally, under the LINK-UP program, qualified households may receive a 50 percent reduction (up to $30.00) on the line connection charges (if approved within 60 days of initial installation). Eligible low-income consumers living on tribal lands are eligible for an additional discount of up to $70.00 to cover 100% of the charges between $60.00 and $130.00.

 

To qualify for the LIFELINE program, 2009 annual household income must be at or below 150% of the federal poverty levels shown below.

Or, the person must participate in one of the following federal assistance programs: Medicaid, Food Stamps, Federal Public Housing Assistance, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Low-Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP), National School Lunch Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).

Toll Blocking Service (TBS) support allows eligible consumers who wish to avoid incurring large long distance fees to choose toll blocking at no cost.

A resident of tribal lands qualifies for LIFELINE and LINK-UP if he or she meets the above criteria, or by participating in one of the following programs: Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance Program, Tribally-Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Head Start (income-qualified customer only) or National School Lunch Program (free lunch program).
